National Apprenticeship Week

Apprenticeships are critical to business, providing a with a way to develop skilled employees who can meet the specific needs of their organization. By training employees in-house, businesses can ensure that their workforce has the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively. This can improve productivity, competitiveness, and job satisfaction, as well as reduce turnover. Additionally, apprenticeships can help businesses to develop a pipeline of skilled workers and can foster a positive corporate culture.

53North have two apprentice data analyst’s, Billy and Jude. They have made the transition from school to working life in a commendable manner. They are both extremely bright and have kickstarted their career path choosing to learn whilst earning. Making full use of their one-day per week off-the-job training, Billy and Jude are learning all about being a Data Analyst with their training provider. Alongside this traditional “classroom-style” learning, 53North have an in-house training programme which enhances their learning using cloud based reliability data including vibration, temperature, oil condition, and ultrasonic. They are learning how machinery works, how it can fail, and how best to maintain it. Over their time as an apprentice they will learn all aspects of asset care, and what the impact of failure is on both the customer and the business. Using our experienced team members to support and guide our young people gives them invaluable knowledge and information, which can be difficult to replicate in a traditional educational setting.

Being in the workplace has shown them discipline, the need to work to business standards and expectations and have responsibility. Both are learning how to communicate effectively with all levels of position in the business as well as with our customers. Having young people in the workforce has brought freshness to the team and with Billy and Jude’s willingness to learn, 53North can adapt their learning to the needs of the business.

This is what Billy had to say about his journey so far,

“I’ve learnt perseverance and the value of communication, as it helped me to complete my project with the help of people in the business, and show an eagerness to complete feedback, by organising meetings with the apprenticeship provider. I also learnt the importance of meeting deadlines to aid and improve my projects/work tasks”

Well done to our two Apprentices – keep up the good work Billy and Jude! #NAW2023
