53North’s criticality assessment appraises the risk of components on food safety. This highlights components of importance regarding food safety and allows for maintenance plans to be developed for these keys risks. The criticality analysis also allows other business risks to be appraised so that resources and maintenance can be focused where its needed.

53North’s is working with SKF to roll out smart lubrication products. Smart grease guns are intelligent systems that will help to ensure that equipment is lubricated at the correct frequency, following the required process and in a controlled manner. The grease gun is connected to smart device, such as a phone. An app then guides the operator, so that they know where and how to apply the lubricant. The grease gun dispenses just the correct amount of lubricant and shares the information to the cloud. This allows tracking and trending of data for monitoring, review and auditing purposes.

53North uses XRF technology to identify the type of metals that come from your metal detectors or from customer complaints. By understanding the type of metal you can narrow down the possible causes, which will reduce inspection time for investigation. Metal mapping is a proactive step, where metal types on the line can be mapped out. This then allows 53North to pinpoint the causes of the metal contamination.

By introducing technologies such as vibration, stress wave, thermography and ultrasonic, equipment degradation can be monitored and food safety issues can be identified before they impact the business. For example, technology can be used to detect if a screw or rotary valve has any internal impacting which could lead to metal fines.
